This article explains what is required to access Jobpac Connect using an ODBC connection. It outlines VPN requirements, security and support considerations, and the technical details needed to connect to the Jobpac database.
Overview of ODBC Access to Jobpac Connect
To access Jobpac Connect using ODBC, a site-to-site (S2S) VPN connection is required. This VPN enables secure network communication between your environment and the Jobpac database.
ODBC access provides direct database connectivity, which can introduce security, performance, and data integrity risks. For this reason, we recommend using Jobpac APIs wherever possible.
Requesting a VPN Connection
All VPN connections for ODBC access must be requested and approved before setup. This ensures secure and controlled access to the Jobpac database.
1. Submit a request to your BuildingPoint account manager asking for VPN access to Jobpac Connect.
2. Your account manager will review the request and:
- Confirm VPN setup details
- Advise on any recurring fees
Once the VPN is established, ODBC traffic to the Jobpac database will be permitted
Support and Responsibility
When using ODBC with Jobpac Connect, the following support limitations apply:
- Trimble does not provide support for ODBC setup or configuration.
- Customers are responsible for sourcing their own network, database, or security expertise.
- Trimble does not support data loss or data corruption that is not caused by Trimble when using ODBC.
Note: Our service provides only the VPN connectivity required to allow ODBC traffic. All ODBC configuration and usage is managed by the customer.
For best results, we strongly recommend consulting a qualified network or security expert before implementing ODBC access.
ODBC Security Disclaimer
ODBC connectivity provides full access to your Jobpac data. You should carefully review the risks before proceeding.

Database Ports for IBM i (IBMi) DB2
The following TCP ports must be permitted for ODBC connectivity to the Jobpac database hosted on IBM i DB2:
- 449
- 8470, 9470 (TLS/SSL)
- 8471, 9471
- 8475, 9475 (TLS/SSL)
- 8476, 9476 (TLS/SSL)
Common IBM i Access Client Ports
These ports are commonly used by IBM i Access Client products, including ODBC and Telnet:
- Port 449 – Service lookup by name and port resolution
- Ports 8470 / 9470 – Host code page translation tables and licensing
- Ports 8475 / 9475 – Application administration restriction checks
- Ports 8476 / 9476 – Sign-on verification and authentication
Depending on your specific implementation, only a subset of these ports may be required.
IPSEC Site-to-Site VPN Bandwidth
The IPSEC S2S VPN provided for ODBC access includes the following:
- 2 Mb standard bandwidth
- Burst capacity up to 10 Mb
- 100 GB of included data transfer
Additional data transfer beyond 100 GB may incur a charge of $1 per GB, assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Once the VPN is established and ports are configured, you can proceed with your own ODBC setup to connect securely to Jobpac Connect.
