Trimble is upgrading how people sign in to your Viewpoint products, including Vista, Viewpoint Team, Viewpoint for Projects and Field View. This page shows you exactly what to do.

The short version

Before the day

Let your staff know it's coming. They'll need access to their email.

On the day

Sign in as usual. You'll see a screen that says “We are upgrading to sign in with Trimble”. Follow the steps below to get a Trimble ID and link it to your Viewpoint ID.

After that

Sign in with your Trimble ID from then on.

Does this apply to me?

Yes
If you sign in with a Viewpoint ID.
No
If you sign in to Vista with a Vista username and password. or if you are an on-premise customer, you will not be affected and there is nothing you need to do.

Your applications

what you need access to

Your Viewpoint ID is already connected to your applications. Linking connects your new Trimble ID to your Viewpoint ID. That connection is what keeps your access to your applications.

What will happen when I sign in on 13 November?

Just sign in like you normally would. The upgrade screen will appear for you, and we'll walk you through each step from there. Here's what you'll see:

Start here (everyone)

1
Enter your credentials and select Sign In.
2
When you see We are upgrading to sign in with Trimble, select Next. (This screen also has a video and a link to step-by-step instructions.)

The “We are upgrading to sign in with Trimble” screen, with the Next button at the bottom

3
You'll be asked to create a Trimble account or sign in with an existing one.

Which one are you?

I already have a Trimble ID →
I don't have a Trimble ID yet →

Not sure? Try signing in with your email. If you see “User does not exist”, follow I don't have a Trimble ID yet.

If you already have a Trimble ID

1
Sign in with your existing Trimble ID. You don't need to create another one.
2
Follow the prompts to link it to your Viewpoint ID.

If you don't have a Trimble ID yet

Choose your preferred option:

Watch the video walkthrough for a step-by-step demonstration of linking your VPID to your Trimble ID (TID).

Prefer written instructions? Follow the 9 steps below. Most of them are just one click.

6

9
This is the step that links your accounts.

On the Link your Trimble account screen, check that the email shown is the one you want to sign in with. Then select Yes, use this account. If it's not the right account, select use different account.

You're done.

Your Viewpoint ID is now linked to your Trimble ID. From now on, sign in with your Trimble ID email and password.

Vista example

Good to know
  • You only need to do this once.
  • If your company requires multi-factor authentication (MFA), follow the MFA prompts during account creation. If you see a note about MFA, don't use the Google, Apple or Microsoft sign-in options.
  • Creating a Trimble ID before the day is optional. If you do, sign in with it when the upgrade screen appears, then link it to your Viewpoint ID. Trimble's guide to creating a Trimble ID has the steps.

If something goes wrong

I see “User does not exist”

Trimble can't find a Trimble ID for the email or username you entered.

  • Check the email address for typos and try again. Use the same email address you use for your Viewpoint application.
  • If you don't have a Trimble ID yet, select Create a Trimble ID and follow the steps above.
My verification code didn't work or has expired Codes expire after 10 minutes. Select Resend Code to get a new one.

For whoever manages your users

Before the upgrade

  • Check that user email addresses are correct.
  • Keep the Viewpoint ID and Trimble ID email addresses the same where you can. The upgrade runs off the Viewpoint ID, and matching emails avoid confusion.
  • Let users know they'll need access to their email during setup.

In Vista: what if two users have the same email address?

A Viewpoint ID single sign-on user can't be created unless their email address is unique in the VA User Profile.

We have more than one email domain. What happens?

We'll connect (federate) those domains with Trimble ID. For more information, email tidfederations@trimble.com.

We sign in with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD)

Trimble has separate steps for this.

About Trimble ID

Trimble ID is the sign-in for fast, secure access to Trimble software. Eventually, everyone who signs in to a Trimble product will use one. It gives you:

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for extra security
Single sign-on, so you sign in once to reach all your Trimble applications
Sign in with Microsoft, Google or Apple, or with a passkey
The option to connect your company's own sign-in system
A choice of region for where your data is stored

You can read more in Trimble's Trimble ID help centre.

Need a hand?

Email tidsupport@buildingpoint.com.au and tell us what the screen says.
