Looking for the full step-by-step guide?
This FAQ covers the most common questions about Trimble ID (TID), Vista sign-in and user administration. We recommend following the detailed guide: |
Launching Vista with a Trimble ID
What happens when I launch Vista and my TID is already set up?
You're redirected to your company's identity provider and sign in as normal. After authentication you'll arrive at the Welcome to Vista page where your Trimble ID is linked to your Vista account. Select Launch Vista when ready. |
Vista didn't open after I clicked Launch Vista
Launch Vista opens Trimble Work Center and starts Vista. If your browser blocks the launch, select Open Viewpoint URL Launcher and allow the browser prompt. |
I got an error when launching Vista
You may not have a Trimble ID yet. Select Create a Trimble ID and complete the setup process. |
Creating a Trimble ID
How do I create a Trimble ID?
You'll then be redirected to the Welcome to Vista page where your new Trimble ID is linked to your Vista account. |
Passkeys and MFA
What is a passkey? A passkey satisfies your company's multi-factor authentication (MFA) requirements and allows you to sign in using your device's built-in security, such as Face ID, Windows Hello, a fingerprint reader or another approved sign-in method. |
How do I set one up? Scan the QR code using your phone and follow the prompts on your device. Your computer confirms when the phone is connected and the passkey has been created. Select Done to continue. |
Can I skip the passkey? Yes. You can set up MFA later using an authenticator app or an alternate email address. |
How do I log in with my passkey afterwards? On the Trimble ID sign-in page, select Use a passkey and follow the prompts. |
How do administrators enforce MFA? Use the MFA Required field in VA Site Settings. Refer to the help article: Configure multi-factor authentication and additional login settings. |
For Administrators
Where do I create a Vista user?
Viewpoint Administration → Programs → VA User Profile Vista user accounts are created for direct application access and all user lifecycle management is performed here. |
How should I set up a new user?
Then tell the user to sign in using a Trimble ID. The account will self-migrate to a single sign-on account. |
What if the email and username don't match? The system automatically adjusts the username to match the email address. |
Do I have to select Is SSO Account? No. Users can self-migrate without it. However, selecting Is SSO Account is considered best practice because it helps avoid duplicate deactivated accounts. |
What about SQL or third-party integration accounts? Set the user type to User Application so those accounts are not accidentally migrated to a Trimble ID. |
